One of the robotics programming software compilers is called RobotC and the company that makes the software, Robomatter, was purchased by Vex Robotics last year. One reason Vex purchased Robomatter was because the Vex community seemed to prefer this product. One benefit to us is that Vex Robotics provides a free license for each Cortex – we like free.
That said, we started encouraging our teams to use RobotC last year and we will continue to do so. In my opinion the EasyC software (that we used to use) may be a little easier for new teams starting out but the RobotC is not that difficult to learn and it has many other advantages. For the die-hard we still have EasyC installed on the Hudsonville Robotics laptops but we will no longer be supporting that product moving forward. Eventually each student will have to transition.
My goal is to host 15 minute training sessions that I will start next week Monday and Tuesday. I want to make sure that I work with every team. I am usually there on Thursdays too so I will be happy to do another training of a team missed the presentation.
